As part of the Calypso projects there will be a series of workshops delivered across the island. These workshops will touch on the lived-experience of Deaf residents and will directly influence the work produced, and exhibited, at Frank Collymore Hall.

Furthermore, internationally-renowned Deaf teacher, Sandra David, will deliver a series of workshops on Deaf Education  to promote understanding of the Deaf community and their unique culture. In a bid to foster relationships between the Deaf and hearing communities local businesses will be invited to take part.

Wawa will lead a session on Empowerment for Deaf residents to show that Deafness is not a barrier to success. The session focuses on ‘can do’ will support attendees to know their worth and value in society.

Finally, leading ASL Interpreter, Bonnie Leonce and her Deaf team will deliver free sign language training to residents who wish to learn more.

The delivery of these workshops would not be possible without the involvement of Barbados Horizons Deaf Charity, The Deaf Heart Project & Barbados Deaf Women’s Group. Broad Street Media will call on their experience of the island and its Deaf residents to ensure that Calypso 2022’s message reaches far and wide. Check out our news feed for updates and to book.
