Exhibition
The Calypso Project will feature leading Barbadian Deaf photographers to create a ground-breaking exhibition to be held at Frank Collymore Hall. This will be the first opportunity local photographers will have to showcase their work alongside British Deaf Photojournalist Stephen Iliffe’s specially commissioned portraits of Deaf Barbadians. The exhibition aims to capture the true spirit of the island and its people and culture, and to demonstrate the wealth of artistic talent present within the island’s Deaf community.
To accompany the photography, we will be displaying mixed-media artworks produced by island artists. Combining Sign Language and visual arts these pieces, produced by local deaf children, will touch on themes such as future and pride.
The exhibition will launch on the evening of the Calypso concert and shall stay in situ for a week, allowing audiences to enjoy it at their leisure.
Vibrant, poignant and thought-provoking, it’s one not to be missed.
